Toast Tax Rate Import

Lunchbox relies on Toast Menus as the source of truth for taxes. With this in mind, we recommend reviewing your tax rates across your locations ahead of onboarding to ensure that the rates are up-to-date. This will ensure that Lunchbox reflects the correct tax amount on your guests' orders.

Notes

  • Taxes must be configured location-by-location and menu by menu if your restaurant does not use Toast Master Menu Management (MMM)

  • For restaurants with locations that have varying tax rates, versions can be created of the tax rate to allow for varying rates across your locations while maintaining the same Toast tax rate ID.

  • For restaurant partners using Order Aggregation where the 3P Marketplace is meant to pay the Sales Tax it is important to ensure that the menu that is imported doesn’t have tax options set on the menu.

Supported Tax Rate Structures

Percent Tax (Example: 7.25 % State Tax)

Fixed Tax (Example: .05 cent bottle tax)

Fixed and Percent Combination (Example: .05 cent bottle tax + 7.25% State Tax)

Takeout Tax - Enable Takeout Tax Rate

Service Type Tax Rate Settings - No Tax for Takeout

NOTE: Always Round Down is fully supported with the Lunchbox integration without the use of a penny allowance.

NOTE: Lunchbox tax rules automatically round down. To allow for orders to pass check price we implement a 5 cent penny adjustment that allows for the total to recalculate. You may notice up to 5 cents difference on the Cart but this will adjust when Toast calls for Check Price and charge the guest the correct amount.

Half Even Rounding (Requires Up to A 5 Cent Penny Adjustment)

Half Up Rounding (Requires Up to A 5 Cent Penny Adjustment)

Always Round Up (Requires Up to A 5 Cent Penny Adjustment)

Toast No Tax For Take-out

For restaurants located in states that require no tax for Take Out. A menu version can be created with the no tax for take out setting enabled. On the tax rate itself it is important that Enable Takeout Tax Rate is set to Yes and the value is set to 0 % see the screenshot below.

Marketplace Facilitator Tax

If you are leveraging Order Aggregation and the varying marketplaces have restaurant facilitor tax applied it is important to let your Lunchbox Implementation Project Manager Know via the Configuration workbook because and ENG ticket will need to be escalated to enable this tax structure for orders sent by Marketplace.
