Objective: This guide walks administrators through setting up a web pop-up that encourages mobile web visitors to download your iOS and Android apps. Providing a seamless transition from the mobile web to your dedicated application enhances user experience and boosts retention.
Prerequisites
Before configuring the pop-up, you will need the direct URLs for your app on both platforms. Ensure these links are active and tested:
Apple App Store Link (iOS)
Google Play Store Link (Android)
Step 1: Generate a Combined App Link
To provide a seamless experience, use a single "smart link" that automatically routes the user to the correct app store based on their device's operating system (iOS or Android). This reduces friction and prevents users from clicking the wrong link.
Go to a smart link generator such as Webhangar.net or Onelink.to.
Enter your Apple App Store and Google Play Store links to generate a single, unified link (and an optional QR code for print marketing).
Copy this new combined link to use in Step 3.
Step 2: Enable the Pop-Up in the Admin Dashboard
Access your backend settings to activate the pop-up feature.
Log in to your Admin dashboard with appropriate privileges.
Navigate through the left-hand menu to Design > Web > Customer Pop Up.
Toggle the main setting to Enable.
Step 3: Customize the Content
Engaging copy and visuals are critical for conversion. Follow these steps to customize the look and feel of your prompt.
Header & Image: Add a compelling header title and upload a branded image to catch the customer's eye (optional but highly recommended for engagement).
Body Text: Paste the HTML template provided below into the body section.
Update the Template: Make sure to customize the placeholder copy for your brand and replace the example URL in the href attribute with the combined app link you generated in Step 1.
HTML Template
Ordering from your phone?<br><br>
Download the <strong>[Your App Name] App</strong> for the best mobile experience. Enjoy faster ordering, exclusive rewards, and easy access to your favorites.<br><br>
<a href="[INSERT YOUR COMBINED APP LINK HERE]"><strong>Download the App</strong></a>
Step 4: Configure Pop-Up Rules
Proper targeting ensures you don't annoy your visitors.
Frequency: Choose how often the pop-up should appear to web visitors. It is recommended to set it to pop up only once per session to avoid frustrating users.
Crucial Setting: Do not select "Use Custom Popup in App." Leaving this unselected ensures that the pop-up only displays to mobile web users and does not disrupt the experience of users who are already browsing inside your mobile application.
Save and view on Web and Web Mobile
Ensure the Web Mobile navigates to the the App Store for iPhones & Google Play Store for Android devices.
