LOCAL & GLOBAL THROTTLING

Order throttling refers to a strategic mechanism employed to manage and control the influx of customer orders. This practice is essential for ensuring the efficient operation of a restaurant, particularly during peak hours or when there is high demand.

Restaurants implement order throttling through various methods:

  1. Time-Based Restrictions: During busy periods, restaurants may limit the number of orders they accept within specific time frames. For instance, they might accept only a certain number of orders every 15 minutes to ensure the kitchen can prepare and dispatch them without compromising food quality or delivery times.

  2. Menu Item Availability: Another approach to order throttling involves temporarily removing certain menu items or options when the kitchen is overwhelmed. This simplifies order preparation and expedites the cooking process for the remaining orders.

  3. Dynamic Pricing: Some restaurants implement dynamic pricing during peak hours, where they may charge more for orders placed during high-demand periods. This encourages customers to order during off-peak times, thus naturally regulating order flow.

Benefits for Restaurant Operators

  • Avoid overwhelming kitchen or delivery teams

  • Ensures accurate, efficient, and on-time order fulfillment

  • 95% order accuracy improvement

  • 30% reduction in driver wait times

UPSELLS

Upsells are a mechanism to entice a guest to add more menu items to their cart before placing an order. This leads to larger order tickets, menu discovery, and a more satisfying order for the guest. Upsells make it easy for guests to add more to their order without leaving their cart!

Upsell offerings can be offered at the item level and in the cart. Items shown for upsells can be customized by our restaurant partners to display options based on Popular Items, Weather Based or items selected by the brand.

BENEFITS

  • An easy way to expose guests to new/most popular menu items

  • Increasing average order value and GMV

  • Non-intrusive to the ordering experience

  • Businesses have a 60-70% chance of selling to an existing customer and a 5-20% chance of selling to a new prospect - so leveraging upsells is huge for leveraging existing customers who are already in the buying process
