Overview

The Favorite Items feature lets signed-in users mark menu items as favorites and access them through a dedicated Favorites category. On mobile apps, this feature is enabled by default; on the web, it must be manually enabled in the Admin Dashboard. Once activated, the Favorites category appears at the top of the menu after a user marks their first favorite item.

Prerequisites & Dependencies

  • Users need to be signed in to their accounts to save items as favorites and access the Favorites category.

  • To allow users to save favorite items and display the Favorites category on the web, this feature must be enabled in the Admin Dashboard. On mobile apps, this functionality is currently enabled by default.

    • If the toggle is on, the input field will be visible.

    • If the toggle is off, the input field and the category will be hidden from the UI.

Limitations

  • This option is not available for guest users

  • This option is enabled by default on Mobile apps, and it can't be controlled via the Admin Dashboard (currently).

  • A signed-in user cannot order favorite items if the item IDs are different from location to location

Configuration

As mentioned, currently, we can control the Favorite Items feature on the web and make it available if the client chooses so. To enable Favorite items on the web, log in to the client's Admin Dashboard and in the left sidebar

  1. Select Design

  2. Select Web

  3. Select Display Options

  4. Set the toggle Show Favorite Category to active

  5. Enter the Favorite category name (e.g., Your favorites, Fav items, Your ❤️ items...)

  6. Select the Save button

Once these settings are saved, signed-in users can start marking items as favorites. Any items they favor will automatically appear in the Favorite Items category on the menu.

Favorite Items on the App and Web

When a guest user accesses the web, they won't be able to select items as a favorite or see the Favorite Items category on the menu.

Once the new user signs up for an account and starts browsing, they will be able to select an item as a Favorite

Once the first item is marked as a favorite, and the Show Favorite Category toggle is active, the Favorite Items menu category will be created and set as the top Menu category.

After choosing a few items as favorites, this is how the menu page would look, always presenting the Favorite Items category at the very top

Here's how the menu with favorite items looks in the live app.

Additionally, you can find the Favorite items category under the Account page on the web and the Account tab in the mobile apps.
