Donation Manager

Overview

The Donation Widget lets guests add an optional donation to an order. The donation goes to the organization the restaurant brand supports. Donation options come from the POS, and the widget is customized in the Admin dashboard. It appears at the top of the Checkout page on web and in the mobile apps.

Guest Experience

After adding items to the cart and moving to Checkout, guests can choose to donate before placing their order. Also,

  • Selecting an amount replaces any previous selection and updates the order total right away.

  • Selecting the no-donation option, such as No Thanks, removes any donation already applied

  • Selecting the info icon opens a pop-up with more details about the donation.

Whether a donation choice is required is set by an admin in the "Donation Manager".

  • When it is required, guests cannot proceed to order placement until they select an option. We can even set the page to autoscroll to the missed section.

  • When it is optional, guests can continue without donating.

Once selected, the donation shows as its own line in the price breakdown, separate from the subtotal, similar to how a tip is shown. It appears on Checkout, Order Confirmation, and Order Details pages, and on the downloadable receipt from Order History.

  • The selected donation is sent as a regular item in the order, not as an open item or a service charge.

  • The donation is included in the final order total. Donations are not taxable.

When reordering, the previous donation is not carried over, and guests choose again at Checkout.

Donation Manager Configuration

Donation options are configured as sizes on a single item on the POS.

In Admin Dashboard (currently only in the Old Admin) that item must be set to the Donation item type, which is what lets the front end show the donation as its own line item and treat it as non-taxable.

The item is imported from the POS.

We support 3 to 5 donation options, and the no-donation option counts as one of them, for example $1, $2, and No Thanks.

The no-donation option's name, such as No Thanks, $0, or None, comes from the POS, where it can also be set as the preselected default.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Donation Manager does not set donation amounts; those come from the POS.

Via Donation Manager we control whether the widget is enabled, whether a selection is required, and we can also set up the banner background image, the organization logo, the widget text, the info pop-up, and the widget title (web-only).
