Pocket Kiosk Configuration

Feature Description

Lunchbox’s Pocket Kiosk brings contactless dine-in ordering with the power of using their personal smartphones. Pocket Kiosk can only be used by partners with Toast POS and on Web Ordering.

 

Setup Process:

Step 1: Start by navigating to the Point of Sale Dining Options section and create a new Dining Option for Pocket Kiosk orders to funnel through.

NOTE:  This should be clearly labeled with Lunchbox in the name as well so that it does not accidentally get used for anything other than this feature configuration.

 

Step 2: When creating the Dining Option, be sure to select Dine in as the behavior type.

Step 3: Publish the Dining Option across the Restaurant Group that you are going to be using Pocket Kiosk with. If the Dining Option is just being used at a single location, simply target the one location with the Dining Option and Publish accordingly.


Step 4: Next, set up the tables for each location. Begin by navigating to the Service Areas tab under the Kitchen / Dining Room section on the POS.

Step 5: To add a Service Area, select Add Service Area.

Step 6: Name the Service Area. Choose whether or not this is the Primary Service Area for the location. Select the Revenue Center it should be reporting to. Save the changes when complete.

Step 7: Select Edit Tables after creating the new Service Area.

Step 8: Next, configure the table layout by dragging and dropping the shapes onto the editing screen on the right. All of the tables can be adjusted by size, height, and width as needed. Under the Tables section, there are also Barriers & Labels to customize the layout in further detail.

Below is an example of a very detailed Dining Room layout. Be sure to Save and Publish the changes when finished.

Step 9: Navigate to the Lunchbox Admin Dashboard. Under the Locations tab, select each store that is being setup and select the Tables button.

Step 10: Next, select Sync Location Tables to pull in the newly created Service Areas into the Lunchbox Admin Dashboard. This step will need to be repeated for all locations that will be using Pocket Kiosk.

NOTE:  Individual tables can be clicked on if there is a need to disable them as well.

 

Step 11: Communicate the name of your Dining Option for Pocket Kiosk for the location(s) to your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to allow them to finish the setup! 

 

 

Pocket Kiosk for Single Location:

Lunchbox’s Pocket Kiosk can also be turned on for a single location. Please see the additional instructions to do so.

 

Setup Process:

Step 6: Turn on/off (active/inactive) Pocket Kiosk for that location:

a. For ASAP Ordering Status: You will need to turn on (active) Kiosk Status.

Recommendations for Restaurant Partners:

  • NESTED MODIFIERS ON YOUR MENU: Guests will typically be ordering from their phones via a web browser. Because of the smaller screen size, we strongly encourage you to declutter your menu by utilizing nested modifiers for options associated with each menu item. Learn more about nested modifiers here.
  • SEPARATE POCKET KIOSK MENU: We recommend having a separate menu for your pocket kiosk. This allows for specific nested modifiers and reorganizing the menu sections (i.e. drinks, appetizers, entrees, desserts) for the best in-person dining experience.
  • SERVICE TYPE: Pocket Kiosk can be used in multiple settings. Review the recommendations for Table Service, Curbside Service, and a Queue Line/Pickup area. 
  • TABLE: Ideal for traditional, dine-in restaurants where patrons sit at a table and are served by waitstaff. The goal of Pocket Kiosk in this scenario is to reduce the need for as many servers on the floor at one time.
  • CURBSIDE: Ideal for restaurants with limited to no seating inside. The restaurant itself is more of a “takeout only” option where there may only be an ordering counter and patrons simply wait for their food to be ready and leave. The goal of Pocket Kiosk in this scenario is to reduce the traffic of guests waiting inside and instead allow them to comfortably wait in their cars until their food is ready.
  • QUE/PICKUP AREA: Ideal for “fast-casual” restaurants that have some seating, but it is limited. The seating they do offer is also for patrons to use after ordering food at the front and picking it up. There is generally no waitstaff. The goal of Pocket Kiosk in this scenario is to keep guests in a dedicated section of the restaurant until their food is ready.
  • PROVIDE GUESTS WITH INSTRUCTIONS: Since Pocket Kiosk ordering is a new experience, make sure to provide your guests with instructions for how it works at their table or via a standing sign.
  • ENCOURAGE ACCOUNT CREATION: Guests can only accrue loyalty, redeem loyalty, or use an e-gift card in-store if they’re logged into their account. Also, you cannot collect guest data from Pocket Kiosk orders unless guests log in or sign up for an account before placing their order.

Considerations for Restaurant Partners:

  • TABLE NUMBER DIRECTORY: Provide Lunchbox with a table map complete with table numbers. This allows us to set up custom URLs for each table.
  • QR CODE PLACEMENT: You must decide where to place your QR codes for scanning/ordering. Some Restaurant Partners place the codes directly on tables, while others use a standing sign next to a queuing line.  
  • GRATUITY: You must decide whether or not you want Lunchbox to apply auto-gratuity to orders.  If so, how much?
  • POCKET KIOSK NAME: You must also decide the external name of your new Dining Option.  For example, Rapid Service, Curbside, Dine and Go.  
  • DINE-IN ONLY MENU ITEMS: You have the ability to make a specific menu just for Pocket Kiosk, which means that you can add items to the menu that you will only offer as a dine-in option. If you want to add dine-in-specific menu items, we can add them to the menu specific to Pocket Kiosk.
  • SIGNAGE DESIGN: You can choose to have the Lunchbox Studio Design team create your signage for Pocket Kiosk, which could be the stickers on tables, signs at parking spots for curbside, prints for signs in a queuing line, etc that includes the QR code, table number, directions for ordering, branding, and more! 
  • QR CODE CREATION: Restaurant Partners are responsible for creating their QR codes to utilize at tables and on signs. We recommend that they create QR codes that are dynamic, which allows them to change the URL link, in case their table configurations change so that any printed signage is valid and doesn’t have to be reprinted/recreated. We recommend utilizing QR Code Studio to create their dynamic QR codes.  

Troubleshooting Common Issues:

  • Table changes/adjustments in Toast, but the changes are not reflected in the mobile app, web, or admin dashboard.

    • Perform Table Sync: 

      • Access the Admin Dashboard and navigate to the Locations Page

      • Select a location

      • Click on Tables

      • Click Sync Location Tables

    • Perform Menu Sync: 

      • Access the Admin Dashboard and navigate to the Menu Entities Page

      • Click Sync Menus

    • Other: If the Table and Menu syncs do not work, check if changes were published in Toast and then run the syncs (Table and Menu) in the Admin Dashboard again.

  • Pocket Kiosk Menu/Item/Group are not showing on mobile app or web. 

    • Check if “Table Kiosk” is turned on.

      • Access the Admin Dashboard and navigate to the Menu Entities Page

      • Select the appropriate menu, item, or group

      • Check Options under Order Type Availability

      • If Order Type Availability is turned off, just click to turn it on

  • Menu/Item/Group are still showing as an upsell on Pickup/Delivery orders even though it was turned off for Pickup and Delivery.

    • Check if upsell is turned off 

      • Access the Admin Dashboard and navigate to the Upsells Page

      • Select the appropriate Menu 

      • Update the availability by adjusting the toggle
